The Rivarossi HO Scale GG-1 Pennsy 1776 Electric Locomotive is an exquisitely detailed and intricately engineered model train, perfect for those who seek authenticity and realism in their model railroading hobby. This locomotive is a faithful representation of the iconic Pennsylvania Railroad (Pennsy) Class GG1, numbered 1776.
History:The GG-1 was an exciting and significant innovation in the railway industry, first introduced by the Pennsylvania Railroad (Pennsy) in 1934, as part of their Centennial Fleet. These locomotives were designed to meet the demands of the rapidly increasing freight and passenger traffic during that era. Moreover, they were built with modern Streamlined Merchandise Train design in mind. The Pennsylvania Railroad retired its last GG1 in 1971, leaving behind a rich legacy in North American railroading history.
Appearance:Measuring 11 inches in length, the Rivarossi HO Scale GG-1 Pennsy 1776 Electric Locomotive accurately replicates the look and feel of the prototype. The body is made of high-quality die-cast metal, ensuring durability and finesse. The body shell is painted in classic Pennsylvania Railroad colors, featuring a red base with gold and green striping. The livery is adorned with the Pennsylvania Railroad logo on both sides, further enhancing the model's authenticity. This meticulously rendered and historically correct artwork makes the locomotive a jaw-dropping addition to any HO scale model railway.
Undercarriage and mechanisms:The Rivarossi HO Scale GG-1 Pennsy 1776 Electric Locomotive is motorized, offering a realistic and smooth operating experience. The five-pole can motor is power-packed enough to pull multiple loaded trains with ease. The undercarriage, which includes a five-pole skew-wound can motor, die-cast frame, and die-cast front and rear trucks, efficiently transfers power to the rails. This ground-breaking traction system provides controlled and precise power carriage movement on curves and starts, adding authenticity to your model railroad layout.
Design and Features:This electric locomotive's design does not compromise on providing exceptional features that cater to the modeler's needs and preferences. The locomotive is equipped with a design with a double-headlight installation and operates with both DC and DCC power control. A detailed, separately applied handrails, couplers, and fuel tank adds to the overall aesthetic appeal. An additional Fisher-Price extending tongue locomotive coupler enables smooth and easy coupling with passenger or freight cars.
Conclusion:The Rivarossi HO Scale GG-1 Pennsy 1776 Electric Locomotive is a must-have for model railway enthusiasts seeking classic Pennsylvania Railroad equipment with high detail and authentic functionality. This stunning model recreates an iconic piece of American railway history and provides endless hours of joy for hobbyists. Features like authentic Pennsy colors, finely detailed exterior, and intricately crafted undercarriage make this Rivarossi locomotive a true marvel and a sensational centerpiece for every HO scale model railroad.

Recommendation:If you are looking for a well-detailed and well-performing HO Scale GG-1 Electric Locomotive, the Rivarossi 5161-02 is an excellent choice. However, hobbyists who value diverse decorative options might consider alternatives with a wider selection of paint schemes. To avoid potential performance issues, ensure the locomotive is run on clean tracks and consider purchasing a decoder to fine-tune its operation.
I do not believe there are many hours, if any at all, on this unit. This comes with a certificate of authenticity no I guess they made few extra. Or send me your best offer. I have only tested it and runs fantastic lights as well.
The Rivarossi catalog announces there will only be '3000 made and no more. Just the plastic insert and velvet. There is some color transfer from the red velvet onto shell, apparently resting on its side for many, many years.
There is no box. It is not very pronounced but there nonetheless.
I have not done any maintenance on this unit. I did not attempt to clean it off.
